The legacy of the Mexican Mayan ruins
Destinations 10/04/2023
We start with a little history (just a little). The Mayan culture was one of the most important Mesoamerican civilizations, as shown by its writing system, art, architecture, and its knowledge of astronomy and mathematics.
It developed in part of what we know today as Central America (specifically in Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico) and covers the period between 2000 B.C. until 1527 AD.
They were organized in cities, where political and religious power was united, and their most representative buildings are stone temples in the shape of a scaled pyramid. In addition, they were characterized by their colored walls.
The archaeological zone of Tulum T is located on a cliff above the Caribbean Sea, in the state of Quintana Roo. These Mayan ruins are one of the most visited, due to its beauty and its amazing views of the turquoise waters that surround it.
This site was an important center of worship of the so-called Descending God, associated with rain, the Sun at sunset and/or Venus. Some of the buildings found in these Mayan ruins are:
