Eating Out in Ixtapa

While Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo boasts a complete first-class tourist infrastructure with all the finest in international cuisine, there are plenty of surprises and rewards for those with a taste for the local.

Local dishes are heavy on sea food that ranges from the simple and tasty to the sublime and out of this world. Broiled fish fillets alongside varieties stuffed local catches and endless shrimp. There are fried fish tacos and octopus with garlic. Only the daring go in for the iguana soup, but the state of Guerrero is also famous throughout Mexico for Pozole, a corn and cabbage stew, served with pork or chicken, in as many varieties as there are little shops selling it.
