Day turns to night in Mazatlán: Total Eclipse

Entertainment 12/03/2024
a series of images showing the phases of an eclipse
This coming April 8th, 2024, an impressive astronomical event will occur. It’ll be visible in much of North America, but the main host will be the beautiful coasts of Mazatlan, in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa.

In Mexico, according to scientists, there will be ideal and appropriate climatic conditions to observe this total solar eclipse. The geographical coordinates of this area of the country will concur with the moment in which the total phase will be at its maximum point on the longest duration.

Between two and five solar eclipses occur throughout the year, although most are partial. The last time Mexico was witness of a total solar eclipse was on July 11th, 1991, and the next one will occur on March 30th, 2052.

For this reason, scientific communities and tourists from around the world are preparing to observe this phenomenon that is already considered the “Great Mexican Eclipse”. On this occasion, Park Royal Hotels & Resorts wants to accompany you to live this unparalleled experience and be part of it.

How eclipses occur?

Universe has generated a particular fascination in humanity, since the beginning of times. Among all the phenomena that occur, we find eclipses, which are one of the most spectacular natural events, as they can change day into night, only to become day again in a few minutes.

An eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth move in a straight line, thus obscuring parts of one of these bodies with another. When the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun, a lunar eclipse occurs. If the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, then a solar eclipse occurs.

Eclipse 2024, dates and times

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, in Spanish), through the Institute of Geophysics, has explained in detail the event that, we are sure, will fascinate you and will connect you in a very particular way with nature.

Most of the country will be able to witness the eclipse partially and, for example, in Mexico City, the maximum phase of it will cover 79% of the Sun, which will mean a partial darkening of the day.

In the port of Mazatlan the total eclipse will last 4:20 minutes, the longest duration on the entire continent, with a total calculation of 2:41 minutes of all phases of the solar eclipse. Astronomical calculations carried out by this academic institute indicates that, in the port of Mazatlan:

  • The eclipse will begin at 9:51 h.

  • The total phase of this will begin at 11:07 h, ending at 11:11 h.

  • Finally, the eclipse will end at 12:32 h.

To fully witness the total solar eclipse, your best option is to stay in one of the 131 rooms at Park Royal Beach Mazatlan. From its spectacular location, right on the beach, you will have the best view of the sea and you’ll be able to observe the eclipse from its infinity pool. Dare to live this experience accompanied by us!

Other coasts where the eclipse will be visible are Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. Although it will not have the same duration as in Mazatlán, these ports will be protagonist witnesses of this astronomical event. To enjoy it at these points you can stay at Grand Park Royal Puerto Vallarta, Park Royal Homestay Los Tules Puerto Vallarta or Park Royal Homestay Los Cabos. Any of these options has an enviable location to witness this beautiful moment.

This astronomical event will be unique and we would like you not to miss it. That is why we’re waiting for you in any of the destinations you choose, so that you can enjoy a few minutes of connection with the Universe and also marvel at the wonder of living in this planet.
